About the Event
Textiles, the fabric of our lives, has a rich and meaningful history and often we miss the deeper meaning of its mention throughout sacred text because we have lost the understanding of its sacredness. The Industrial Revolution brought about a mass production of textiles and so the act of spinning, weaving, and knitting as a source of infusing meaning into textiles lost its power. The garment that Jesus wore on the way to the cross, (a garment woven in one piece) was so precious that even the guards cast lots because they did not want to tear it. Artisans were given exact instructions on how to create the curtain of the temple. The curtain that was torn in two from top to bottom as Jesus took his last breath. In my presentation I’d like to bring to life hidden meaning and power in textiles that once was understood and now has been lost.
